Kunsthaus - Zurich

Kunsthaus - Zurich

As part of any trip I take, going to see the main gallery or museum is on the top of the list.  Le Louvre and Pompidou in Paris, National Portrait Gallery in London are always such a treat.  But when I went to Zurich and spent a day at the Kunsthaus, I really did not expect to have such a magnificent experience.

As a tourist, what I really appreciated is how quiet, clean and respectful the establishment was.  I didn't feel like I was trying to peek over heads or turn my audio guide on loud because of crying children.  The layout of the entire building almost felt like a magnificent heritage house.  Walking through rooms as if going from living room to the grand hall to a smaller sun room.  Wide open spaces that flow so well between master pieces hanging on walls measured in perfect distance from one another.

The audio guide gives detailed insight to the artists history and the creation of the painting you are looking at.  Some of the most historical artists and paintings are housed here.  You have Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Edvard Munch, Vincent Van Gogh and Marc Chagall.  It was Marc Chagall's painting that changed this gallery visit into a truly memorable experience.  Standing in front of his piece, "Les Lumieres du Mariage" moved me to tears and I can't remember the last time a painting did that to me.

If you are an art lover, Zurich is a place to visit.  You will not regret it.
